Provide therapeutic crisis intervention services within the school setting; work closely with residential treatment team to provide consistent treatment approach.
1. Supervise student behaviors during daily academic routines to ensure safety of students and staff.
2. Collaborate with Academy staff in Integrated Mental Health model and program development.
3. Coordinate and implement, with assistance as needed student activities and events that are part of the regular school day program, as well as extracurricular programming.
4. Participate in maintaining a highly positive and ethical academic environment.
5. Participate in all required trainings and certifications.
6. Perform other responsibilities, tasks and projects as needed.
Education, Credentials and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline required.
Substitute Teaching or Paraprofessional license required within 3 months of hire.
Experience in a school, day treatment or residential treatment setting with demonstrated emphasis on behavior intervention responsibilities is preferred.
Valid driver’s license and driving record that satisfies state regulating agency driving requirements as well as Nexus corporate policy parameters and insurance eligibility standards.
Knowledge, Skills and Personal Attributes
Obtain and maintain certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) techniques.
Demonstrate sufficient written and verbal communication skills to generate required documentation and reporting that is legible and articulate, and to interface effectively with student, families, staff and external contacts.
Exhibit a spirit of cooperation among coworkers and comply with corporate and school policies and procedures. Display ethical conduct and professionalism at all times, with particular emphasis on maintaining a healthy relationship and appropriate boundaries with students, and protecting student confidentiality.
Adhere to procedures regarding punctuality and attendance and exhibit flexibility in work schedule when needed.
Model and reinforce fundamentals of positive youth development.
Demonstrates the ability to handle student behavior outbursts, emergencies or crisis situations and uses sound judgment to take appropriate action. Remains calm and effectively manages stressful and difficult, emotionally charged or crisis situations.
Serve as a mentor and role model in daily interactions with students that reflects compassion and understanding yet firm in holding students accountable for their actions; demonstrates communication that is honest, positive, respectful and professional.

Able to perform physical interventions and restraints of students.
Able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time (2-4 hours).
Able to twist, bend and stretch in a manner conducive to the execution of daily activities within an academic facility.
