Interpreter - American Sign Language Contingent Opportunity|
General Summary of Position Responsibility:
Provides medical interpreting services for the deaf and hard of hearing patients and families to provide effective communication with Lurie Children’s staff regarding health care needs and interventions.
Essential Job Functions:
Identifies, assesses and responds to child/ family interpretation needs; understands that this occurs within the broader healthcare context and within the familial context of developmental needs, psychosocial needs, cultural needs and spiritual needs.
Communicates with members of the health care team to provide optimal services to patients and families.
Advocates for the language needs of the deaf and hard of hearing patients and families throughout the continuum of care.
Must have an understanding of the deaf and hard of hearing culture and work with Lurie Children’s to address any barriers for patients and families.
Keeps accurate stats of all patient encounters.
Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.
Serves patients seen at Lurie Children’s main building and other outpatient locations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
Must possess a current license with an advanced or master proficiency level in accordance to the Illinois Interpreter for the Deaf Licensure Act of 2007 and Illinois Deaf and Hard of Hearing Commission.
Ability to work within a changing schedule
Experience interpreting in a multi-cultural and health care setting preferred.
Ability to articulate and respond to cultural differences as related to healthcare issues.
Ability to work in a highly regulated environment with multiple demands.
Must comply with all Corporate Health annual requirements.
