Organizational Overview and Values
VIP is a nationally recognized Latina organization dedicated to ending violence in the lives of women. Our work is based on the fundamental human rights principles of respect, dignity and equality. We deliver a full range of culturally competent services that enable women to become free of violence and achieve their full potential.
Our direct services include hotline crisis counseling, emergency and transitional housing, individual counseling, support groups, children and youth services, advocacy and court accompaniment, public benefits and housing application assistance, educational and vocational counseling, job-readiness assistance and referral services.
Ending domestic violence or intimate partner violence also requires changing societal attitudes and policies that foster inequality and perpetuate violence against women. Through community education, community organizing, policy advocacy and Latina leadership development, VIP acts as a pivotal force for social change. After two decades, VIP continues to be a symbol of the powerful and transformative impact of Latina leadership in service to the Latino/a community and all women.
Our History and Accomplishments
Founded in 1984, the Violence Intervention Program (VIP) was the first community based, bilingual/bicultural domestic violence program established in New York State. To this day, VIP continues to stand at the forefront of the fight to end domestic violence in Latino communities serving thousands of women since its inception.
In New York State, VIP is the largest provider of bilingual and bicultural domestic violence services rendered by and for Latinas and has received numerous awards in recognition of its groundbreaking work and continued excellence.
