New Alternatives for Children, Inc. (NAC) was founded on the belief that all children have the right to be nurtured within a safe and permanent family.
NACís mission is to provide innovative high quality services in support of birth, foster, and adoptive families caring primarily for medically fragile children. NACís mission includes children with severe physical, emotional, and behavioral challenges and developmental disabilities. NACís services enable children to remain in or to be returned to their families whenever possible or to be adopted by loving families. Working primarily with children whose birth families live in poverty, NACís continuum of services ensures that childrenís physical, social, educational, recreational, medical, and mental healthcare needs are met.
By supporting families NAC prevents lengthy stays in foster care, hospitals, or other institutions. NAC builds on family strengths, provides opportunities, and assists all family members in reaching for and achieving their potential.
NAC was founded in 1982 on the belief that every child deserves a safe, nurturing home and a bright future. With more than 27 years of focus on an exclusive mission, NAC has developed unparalleled expertise. Our size and array of services continue to grow. Year by year, we expand our capacity to serve New York Cityís most vulnerable children and families.
When a medically fragile child remains in a hospital long after it is medically necessary it is because a family does not have the resources to care for him or her at home. Caring for a sick child can put unbearable stress on a family, particularly a family struggling with poverty or other sources of instability. NACís mission is to provide the support and advocacy necessary to help children with chronic medical conditions, their siblings and their families overcome obstacles that deprive them of a loving, permanent home and the chance to thrive.
